ADAMS CEMETERY
The “New Cemetery'', also known as Dew Cemetery (reason unknown, may have been a corruption of "New'') was established by the Town of Manatee in 1883. In 1892, additional ground, an area 264' X 266' was purchased from Major Alden J. and Adelaide G. Adams for the sum of $400. Major Adams is buried here and the cemetery is now known as the Adams Cemetery. It is located at 3rd Street and 9th Avenue. The cemetery is still being used, although it has been sadly neglected. Many of Manatee's pioneer families are buried here. The earliest marker found is that of Duncan Neil Smith, born 18 December 1865 and died 25 July 1890. This cemetery has been platted and a copy can be secured from the Historical Records Library of Manatee County. (Summary prepared about 1980).
